In the diagram below, the circle labeled "AB" represents me and each other circle represents one of my known relatives. Any two circles connected by a line represent a parent and child. The length of the path between the the "AB" circle and any other circle represents the degree of relatedness between myself and that person -- my closer relatives are connected by shorter paths.
Each circle can have one or two colors. Each color
represents a different genetic marker. Colors filling the circle
(e.g.
or
)
indicate particular Y-chromosome types while colors around the
circumference of a circle (e.g.
or
)
indicates particular mitochondiral DNA types. Note that the distribution
of these markers is mostly hypothetical and the vast majority of
marked individuals have not been genetically tested.
In addition to the circle labeled "AB", a few other circles contain initials. These are some of the people who have contributed information to my genealogical database.
In addition to the raster version shown below, an experimental SVG version of the diagram is available.
