In the summer of 2003, I tried to locate Kopysno based on coordinates listed in the Alexandria Digital Gazetteer and JewishGen ShtetlSeeker. After finally locating Kopysno myself, I found that its actual location was about 2km from the closest database coordinates I found on the web. My GPS reading for the center of the church yard and cemetery at Kopysno is North 49.683124° and East 22.638905°.

Mapquest's map for these coordinates shows a road from Brylince to Rybotycze, which you might be tempted to take if visiting Kopysno while staying in Przemyśl. Having walked this road myself, I would not recommend traveling it in anything other than a four-wheel-drive off-road vehicle. However, it is possible to drive right to Kopysno if approaching it from Rybotycze. We did so in a Renault Laguna, so most any vehicle can probably manage the road as long as it's not drenched with rain.

I am researching the Kopyscianski families of Poland and Ukraine, some of all of which are believed to have originated in Kopysno. The name has many spelling and transliteration variations, including:

Note: There are a similar set of surnames that begin with "KAPU", but these represent a distinct surname not related to the "KOPY" surname I'm reseraching.

I am descended from the Kopyścianski family of western Lemkovyna (in southern Poland). Some people who share the same Kopyścianski ancestors as me can be seen on my Kopyscianski Family Tree. Whether you are descended from the same Kopyścianskis or some other family with the same name, I would like to hear from you.

Note that the church at Posada Rybotycka is unique in Poland and probably worth a visit while on the way to or from Kopysno. The May/June 2001 issue of The East European Archealogical Journal includes an article by Waldemar Deluga which mentions this church, saying:
